Africa News
During a recent telephone call to Sister Emmanuel in Kwazulu South Africa, Sister told me that we now have a seamstress who makes part of the school uniform needed for our sponsored children. This cuts down on expenses.
Any good quality uniform (including footwear) which has been outgrown is now passed down to younger children. The needs per individual differ yearly. Some children need less money spent on uniform whereas children moving up to senior school may need extra uniform and higher school fees.
Any monies left over per child are put together and used for children as yet unsponsored to enable them to receive schooling or for children whose sponsors can afford only the school fees. The surplus money is also used for the necessary books and stationary and any money leftover after that is used for medicines and other areas of need.
When a child is sponsored, it is ensured that any remaining family of that child will be looked after, for example, food parcels can be collected and assistance can be given for clinic or hospital appointments.
I hope this use of any leftover money meets with your approval.
Sister Emmanuel also informed me that we need more funding to complete the new feeding centre and also for the enormous cooking pots. If you can help at all with a small donation that would be wonderful. We now need to quickly complete the centre so that the children living in the more rural areas can receive at least 2 substantial meals a day.
Many thanks from myself, Sister Emmanuel, Nancy and the Kwazulu AIDS orphans for your continued support.
Once again all our best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.
