Funds to South Africa
Today, 3rd March, I have just transferred money out to South Africa. Some of the funding is for the purchase of an all important scanner for the computer then, hopefully, after a very long time, we will be all set up again to resume emailing, receiving receipts and other documents and photos of the children.
It has been a very difficult and frustrating few months trying to run the charity properly without this form of communication.
We are lucky now as Khanya is in contact with a technician at Zululand University who said he will give us all the help we may need with the computer in the future, free of charge, as he was brought up in an orphanage then later was helped from a project just like Nancy's so he understands how important it is to be able to have the computer connecting myself with the project in Africa. So if, in the future, any problems arise with the computer, we have only to contact him and he will come and help us. I am so grateful to this man for his caring and kindness and having his help will make so much difference to both myself and Khanya.
Other money is to be used to replace the Anti Retro-viral drugs which were stolen from the homes of the children and other money is for the wholesale purchase of sanitary towels etc for the girls.
In the creche is a five year old girl called Ziyanda. With supportive funding she will be able to go to a residential home where she will be taught skills in order to develop to her full potential and, hopefully, one day be able to live, with some support, an independent life.
I felt that this would be a very worthwhile way to use some of the funding. Also, this will give her young mum of 18 the opportunity to resume her education as since she was raped at the age of twelve and gave birth to this little Down's Syndrome girl, she has been unable to go to school. Also at the age of twelve both her parents died leaving her totally responsible for her four very young siblings.
This girl is so excited to have his opportunity of finishing her education and I am very happy that by helping the little girl we are also enhancing the life of her young mother and that of her mother's siblings.
