A Timely Donation
Early this morning, August 19th, I received a donation of £100 from Eira Endersbee who attends St Anne's parish Church.
I was so grateful to Eira as I know that right now the temperatures in the township are very low and the children are extremely cold. Due to other needs I have been unable this year to donate funds for blankets and other necessities so badly needed at this time of year.
About half an hour after receiving the £100 from Eira, I received a text message from Nancy's daughter telling me that this morning two of our sponsored teenagers were found frozen together in each others arms, trying to combat the cold night. One of the girls, Thandeka was already dead but her younger sister Mbali was just alive and she is now critically ill in the ICU of the local hospital.
On my last visit to South Africa i visited this family in their home and helped with repairs to their home and supplied three mattresses and three blankets as they had absolutely nothing. It wasn't enough and now Thandeka has lost her life.
I am in the process of sending out an appeal for help. We now urgently need funding for blankets and some gas cylinders. We cannot allow this to happen again and yet we are helpless to stop it as we can never help all in need nor can we ever supply enough blankets for each member of the families to have one as even with an appeal there will not be enough funding. Mostly the children huddle together and share which is exactly what Thandeka and Mbali were doing.
We must get as much help to the children as we possibly can. if you can help at all, please do. £3.50 will buy one blanket and help to prevent a tragedy like this happening again.
My grateful thanks to you all. No donation is too small and can be paid through Pay Pal, see top right Make A donation or by sending a cheque to be made out to One Life
