An unexpected donation

Today, September 10th, I received a cheque for £1000 from Val Philpott of Bridlington.

Val is terminally ill with cancer and has requested that £400 of this money be put on one side to ensure the education of the two children she sponsors until they are of an age to leave school. The remaining £600 is for the charity to use in whatever way it is needed.

I was very touched to realise that Val who is terminally ill and coming to the end of her life has still, despite her own very sad circumstances, found the time and the love and caring to ensure the education of these two children in need in South Africa.

I met Val several years ago and we have stayed in touch by phone and letter although sadly we haven't had the opportunity to meet up again. She is an amazing lady and one who will stay in my heart and mind as a very dear friend and a shining example of what unselfishness really is.
